What is the problem with Final Fantasy VII on mobile devices? Try file size, as Tokita recently explained to Shacknews in an interview

“Unfortunately, it’s not that it’s not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile. It’s that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won’t be able to contain the space it takes. It’s over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years.”

I know there are phones which have 32GB or more storage, and some phones letting you use a 64GB MicroSD card for storing Apps, and games, so the size should not be as big of a problem these days.

I guest SquareEnix want to make an HD version of FF7 for mobiles rather than re-releasing the original version from the PSX.

I guest using an Emulator to emulate FF7 PSX version on a mobile phone or tablet will be the only way to play FF7 on a mobile now.

Not sure what they are talking about, there are games on mobiles right now bigger in size than FF 7.

I'm guesing, they can't make the game under 2GB which may convince more people with older phones like the iPhone 4, or cheap Android phones with only 3GB of usable space to buy FF7 to play on their older phones.

I think people with slower, and older phones with less storage space, maybe more likely to buy FF7 if it's file size is smaller, and the download time will be shorter when the file size is smaller.

I guest, we need to wait until most people own fast smartphones with a lot of storage, so SquareEnix would be more likely to port FF7 because more people can play FF7 on a smartphone when most people own fast smartphones with lots of space for games.

I looked it up on PSN and the game is currently the size of 1,352 megabytes. I've found other games that are successfully on mobile such as XCOM: Enemy Unknown, has 1.88 gigabytes. Infinity Blade III 1.49 gigabytes.

And it seems SE has a left hand don't talk to the right hand situation going on, here is two of SE's mobile games currently available: Chaos Rings II is 823 megabytes and Deus Ex: The Fall is 808 megabytes.

So I'm thinking maybe they can't make the movie scenes work on the mobile.

Not to mention I hear dragon quest 8 is suppose to come out for mobile and that PS2 game has to be an easy 4-7 GB game.

Maybe they plan on re-making the movie scenes to a higher resolution like 2048 x 1536 pixels which is the resolution of the iPad 4. Making the resolution of the movie scenes would look better, but use more space.

I believe that DQ8 proves that they're bluffing and they're trying to boost sales for FFXV and such like AlphaOmegaSin said in his video about the SE stockholders' meeting.

how does that boost sales?
They said they will not produce a remake (not to be confused with a port) of FFVII until the popularity/quality of FFVII is beaten by a new title.
