it's based around running HTML5-based applications; sounds pretty cool.

Indeed, it sounds pretty cool, but I Wonder if the HTML5 apps need to be open with a web browser, or other HTML5 player which might make apps run a little slower, and use more battery life, RAM and CPU then a natively written App for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc which uses a more standard programming language like C++, C, Java, etc which can run without a web browser, and can be open by the operating system without another app like a web browser, or plug-in like Adobe Flash and Air.

I believe the design of it is to run HTML5/CSS/JavaScript as "native" code for it, so you don't need a browser open and any apps you develop for it are theoretically cross-platform. It seems like they're trying to do something a lot different from the competition, and what they're doing looks really cool.

Interesting, HTML5 apps running natively. I read on Wikipedia that Firefox OS uses Linux for hardware controls, etc.

I hope this also mean users can install Native Linux software like Gimp, etc on Firefox OS which does not have a HTML5 version yet.
