I read Firefox OS would come out for Tablets in the future. I hope the tablet version of Firefox comes with resizeable windows.
Non-web apps would be nice, but Firefox OS is mostly installed on slower cheap mobile phones to try to convince people looking for a cheap phone to buy a Firefox smartphone instead of a feature phone, so a lot of popular apps like Winamp, YouTube and games like Temple Run might not run very good because of the slower performance of Firefox OS Phones.
I may get a Firefox phone depending on the price since I mostly get the cheapest cell phones since I rarely use cell phones when I'm out, and mostly use them to call people to pick me up, or in emergency situations.
Android, Windows, and iOS maybe better on faster phones like the Samsung Galaxy S4, but Firefox seem to run faster on cheaper slower phones with a slower single-core CPU, RAM, and less storage.
I probably get a Firefox phone over Windows since I don't like Windows Phone's design.
I can't say that I am all that interested in this to be honest. It seems like it was more of a response to Bada, Tizen (which is Bada's successor) Symbian or other O/S's meant for older, and lower end to mid-range devices, but are considered to be better than Java based phones, feature phones or those running an older version of Symbian, rather than Android or iOS. I think that iOS, Android (2.3.6 and forward) Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile 6 and onward are in a class by itself.
I agree FireFox Phones is meant for lowend phone buyers, or people who just need a few features like a web browser, dialer, text, camera, contacts, and music and video playback, but don't want to sign a lengthy contract to buy a reasonably price phone. I read online the Firefox phone is being sold for $80 on eBay.
One of the advantage of Firefox OS is it can be installed on slower and older phones, and run pretty quickly because it is a very lightweight operating system for phones, so it may make an impact on the lowend smartphone, and feature phone category of cell phones, or people who are still using Android 2.0-2.3, and want to install a newer OS which is lighter for their phone.
$80 for a Smartphone without a contract is a good deal, and Firefox OS seems easier to use than Android, so people (on a budget) upgrading from regular feature cell phones may pick a Firefox phone for its ease of use, and affordable contract-free price.
Things change fast in the mobile operating system world since Blackberry, Symbian, and Java were once the most popular OS for Mobile phones, and now they are not getting as many new users compared to the past. In the future, it maybe Firefox OS, Tizen, and Ubuntu touch.
I think some people also may dislike making a Gmail/Google Account to just use their phone if they don't already have a Gmail account, or don't want to login their Google Account into a phone, and may trust Firefox more with their private data like contacts than Google, Apple, and Blackberry.
Blackberry is still the leader in business although that edge is dwindling each day. They've had numerous businessmen and women and companies that were contracted to use their phones are some point, and even though more of their users are flocking to Android or iOS, security was never really an issue and for that reason alone there are many people still willing to buy Blackberry devices and use their service..
I believe Blackberry is still popular in Canada, and people looking for a prepaid phone may pick a Blackberry phone instead of flip phones, and feature phones which still cost $30-50 when on a prepaid plan. Some people find Blackberry easier to use than Android, so less tech savvy phone users maybe more likely to use a Blackberry since they know what it is.
