If the rumors are to be believed, CES 2015 is shaping up to be a TV fan’s dream come true. Digitimes reports that LG and Sony will debut a brand new slate of 8K and quantum dot televisions in January, just in case you were already bored with the 4K display in your living room.

I think there is not enough content like video games, TV shows, and movies which will make an 8K TV worth it. 4K TVs are not worth it as well because most TV shows, and movies are still 720-1080P, and a lot of video games for PS4 and Xbox One run at under 1080P resolution.

holy crap, right now a regular movie is over 100 GB for 4k resolution at 2 hours. 8k would edge it closer to TB and not many formats or internet speeds can handle that.

4-8K TV seems more useful for offline viewing, and recording for people who already own a 4K video camera for recording their own home video to show to people at their own home.

But, there are not many internet connections, or disc formats which can hold so much data, so 8K movies will require you to record a movie on many Blu-Ray disc, and have the user watch a movie on many discs by switching disc 1 out of the player, and put disc 2 in like how Playstation 1 games require gamers to switch out game disc after they are finish playing one disc.

The world isn't ready for this yet, it isn't even ready for 4k. The other technology is too far behind. The vast majority of TV channels in my country are only at 720p and not even 1080p yet. Needs to improve vastly before this.

This, we can't handle 8k yet.

I also wonder if most TV viewers want to watch movies, tv shows, and play video games in 4-8K since with such high resolution, it may make it possible to see dirt, dandruff, dust and oil on someone's face and hair when they watch a reality show, or the local news when they interview people on the street who don't wear make up.

I also read comments which say that you have to sit very close to a 4K TV to see the difference compared to a 1080P TV set.

I wouldn't agree with that. From what I have seen in stores, it shows a really huge improvement.
