The second of GF's future poll topics, we the staff would like to get the forum onto a .com domain if not a .net. Since neither of these can be done with our current name, we are looking at a new forum name. Do you think this should happen? Do you have any suggested names (all names should have something gaming related and focused on mutil platforms)

Vote and let us know of your thoughts. If you are a member of at least one year I will PM you the names of what we are thinking of if you wish to know.

Looking forward to feedback.

My vote goes to no, unless people are confusing the current domain with its .com version (last I heard, that domain was appearing on Google as harmful).

We could still redirect the old domain and slowly phase it out. Our main thoughts for it is that .us domains don't appear very well in listings on Google and it could make people from other areas feel its a US only discussion forum.

I've checked for a couple of domains, but most of them are taken. So,how about "gamingtalks.com".It is short and it isn't a premium domain.

P.S.A professional site needs a professional domain :)

The thing about "s" at the ending of domains is, you get confused with the "without-s" domain. Average Joe might be looking for "gamingtalks.com" but ends up going to "gamingtalk.com" :/

^indeed

Also folks this isn't a rebranding, we are only trying to make the forum more SEO better for us to do better with future traffic. I've already gotten three merger requests from this >_> (and none of them wanting to come to us.)

I see.Sorry about that.Then how about gamerspoint.net?
It isn't a premium domain :)

I don't think the url must necessarily reflect the forum's name. You could use the url to add other SEO words or something clever/memorable of your liking. the idea is the url is easy to remember. My Spanish Zelda forum has the url being the translation of "Zelda Community". If Zelda forum was available that'd been my no. 1 choice.

Anyway, I have no problem about the dot us url. It may be a bit confusing at first but it is a nice trade for being given able to keep the name in the url. I never felt left out for not being from the USA.

keep in mind that if you change your domain name then you will lose all search engine traffic from that. Restarting will take years to get that back I'm thinking.
I suppose it all depends on how much you value SE traffic though.

If you do decide to change it know that I would defiantly like to negotiate a purchase of gamingforce.us domain from you. :)

ohhh? What would you do with the domain?

But if this happens, we wouldn't sell the .us domain till the new one takes hold.

I don't think selling the gamingforce.us domain at all is a good idea, our current members may know the new domain, but old members trying to return to the forum may have difficulty getting here.
Yes it would have to be something we handled carefully depending on how fast people adapt to a name change.
