Four new variations of the Spore franchise are on the way from Maxis, according to a release by Electronic Arts. For the PC, there's Spore Galactic Adventures expansion, which should show up sometimes this spring and offer more types of gameplay in the 'space game' phase of the original. The expansion will allow "players to beam down to planets, play mission-based adventures and even create their own customized adventures for the first time," according to the release.
This expansion was originally announced last year, and more information can be found in this preview.
Spore Creature Keeper, also for the PC and being delivered as a stand-alone product, will be aimed at a younger audience, letting players train and nurture created creatures. The release describes how the game will allow gamers to "play with their creation alone or have a play-date online for endless creature fun. Spore Creature Keeper brings all the fun of creature creation to a new level by adding nurturing, teaching and social components to the experience."
Then there's Spore Hero, a version for the Nintendo Wii, which will be an original adventure game that will utilize the system's motion controls in some fashion. The game, like the rest of the Spore products, will emphasize "creativity and evolution." Spore Hero is currently scheduled to be released this fall.
Finally, Spore Hero Arena for the Nintendo DS makes it possible for handheld gamers to generate fully-3D creations and bring them into fights with others. This will also be made available this fall.
