During Microsoft's Windows 10 live event today, a Microsoft executive said many Windows users will have a free upgrade to the new operating system for a year after its release.

The upgrade will be applicable for all devices running Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, executive vice president of Operating Systems Group Terry Myerson said. This includes users with Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft is also promising full support once the upgrade is complete –– it's worth mentioning that this upgrade is only applicable for the year after release. After that, the deal runs out.

Not a bad deal, too bad you really can't upgrade a windows OS without issues.

I agree upgrading to Windows can have a lot of issues in my experience. Sometimes I even have issues installing Windows on older computers which have parts like videocards which are not compatible with the new version of Windows. New versions of Windows also has more problems, and bugs compared to older versions of Windows like XP, and Vista which are pretty stable.

I agree it is a very time consuming process especially if you install Windows from a Disc. But, making a USB Windows installer Flash drive to install Windows can be very time consuming as well.

For most people, downloading and installing Windows updates, software, and hardware drivers on a new version of Windows is slow as well because most people still have slower internet unlike Google Fiber which is very fast internet, and their computer maybe slow which can make installing programs slow as well.
