I prefer free Wireless internet if I take my laptop out of the house, but I think it is not actually free at most places since they kick you out if you don't buy food, coffee, books, is a student at the college, work at the building, etc.
Those Cellular internet data plans can be very expensive sometimes depending on the contract and terms of service like ALL ISPs.
But, if your job depends on your internet connection with a laptop. It will be better to subscribe to a mobile internet plan since losing a job because of crappy Wi-Fi at a coffee shop can be very annoying.
Cellular internet can also can be a good alternative to slow dial-up in towns that don't offer Cable, DSL, or any other type of fast wire base internet service, but offer cellular internet.
Plus, coffee is not cheap at many shops at $3 a cup.
