FreedomPop on Wednesday announced plans to sell discounted LTE tablets that come with a free data plus connectivity capable of offering tablet buyers phone features.

In addition to browsing the web with their tablets, FreedomPop tablet buyers will also be able to send and receive text messages and make voice calls for free.

“The line between smartphones and tablets continues to blur,” FreedomPop Co-Founder and COO Steven Sesar said. “As a result, people want to use the device they’re most comfortable with, in a way that is most useful to them. We felt it was important to offer an expanded FreedomPop tablet experience by including telephony, and not just to enable calls but also for using apps like WhatsApp or Uber that require a device phone number to integrate seamlessly.”

Turning a tablet into a smartphone sounds like a good deal for tablet users who need a tablet for school or work since a lot of educational and work related eBooks, instructional videos, and Apps which college students and workers use are only available on Apple iOS, and Google Android Online digital store. People can now use a tablet they already own for making phone calls and text while they also use tablets to read eBooks, play mobile games, and do other tablet tasks.

It is amazing that Freedompop can offer free text messages, data and voice calls for casual light users.

I think FreedomPop uses Sprint's network, so it should be as good as Sprint's US service.

I heard Freedompop is a good alternative to pre-paid phones for people who are light users since Freedompop gives users 500 texts, 200 voice minutes, and 500MB data a month for free before they need to buy extra minutes, text, and data. It is also contract free.

Free. I want. :o

I doubt it works in Canada though.
I'm sure it is.

Is sprint a good coverage?

I think Sprint is not available in Canada. Canada only has Rogers, Bell, Telus, and other small cell companies like Wind, Fido, and Koodo.

I think Sprint is pretty good in the US since it is big like ATT, T-mobile, and Verizon. Freedompop offer free limited service, so I go with Freedompop since it uses Sprint Network, and it's free for light cell phone users.
