Do you play video games during a storm when the power could go out at any moment?

We typically don't get many storms where I live, so not really.

I do remember when I was young though, we were playing on my uncle's laptop, on...one of the early GTA games anyway, but I forget which one. It was definitely one of the 2D ones though.

The power went out, but since we could run the laptop off of the battery, we kept going. At some point during this, I piped up and said, "I bet this is what the people did before there was electricity! Played on laptops when it got dark!"

My family had a good time laughing at me for that.

I used to be in an online Madden league, and many time I would play in storm. Most times it was alright but sometimes I would lose power or internet.

I never try to play games in bad weather.  Even with a surge protector, I don't want to risk having one of my game systems fried.  I have played games on my laptop when the electricity has gone out once.  If there are storms coming and I am playing video games, I look for the nearest save point and turn the console off once my progress has been saved.

Only single player games or essentially things don't influence anyone else other than me.

Nothing stresses me out more when I play something like League of Legends with friends or randoms then my connection drops. There's a difference between lag that comes and goes vs the real deal no idea when the network will be back up. I just feel terrible for leaving everyone high and dry. That in mind, it has happened before and much of the time you can't foresee it as it's an issue with the ISP, but when it comes to a storm you can reasonably foresee potential problems.

If its going to storm I flip the power strip to off on my TV's , Computer, and console. I had a real life friend that lost a $2,800 gaming rig when lighting struck the power lines buy his house, it fried everything in his house. And his insurance company wouldn't pay for anything because they said it was a act of god.

gah, I hate stories like that. I guess surge protectors only do so much.

I really hate storms, mostly because I can just never decide whenever to take the risk or not.
Usually, it ends up with me playing/keeping the computer on for a while despite everyone else turning off everything else. After a while though, I start thinking... What if my computer dies? Even though the risk is small... What if it happens?

And then I just can't stop thinking about IF my computer dies. So eventually, I'll shut it down no matter what, because I can't stop worrying about it dying on me.

And really, it would cost way too much money to buy a new computer, just because I was too stupid not to turn it off when it was storming outside. Even if the risk is low, I don't want to have to buy a new computer... I'd rather not take the risk, unless the storm is clearly very, very far away. (you can count seconds from when you see the light and when you hear it)

I know that it's not a good idea to play games during a storm, but I do it anyways. I usually take the risk, but I dont think that I should anymore. It's pretty dangerous.

For surge protector failing their missions reasons above, no, I do not.

At least, I would only play on hand-helds that are not at risk for those.

Nope, never.
Mostly because once a storm comes in, mother always takes charge and shuts off the TVs and computer, so I usually grab my laptop and go on whatever battery I got left. She's really paranoid about these things to the point where she's scared for us just because we're using headphones in such bad weather.

I don't get storms like that in my area usually, but I don't see any reason not to. If the power goes off, just resume when it turns back on. Not really a big deal in my opinion.

Our electricity here fluctuates very easily during storms, so I wouldn't play any game I'd be invested in during a storm, or at least I most likely wouldn't start it then. I'd maybe decide on it but I'll just assume that the power may go out so I don't end up getting too frustrated if it does.

If the storm is extremely violent and risks power outage, then I stick with my handheld consoles. But as for regular storms, I just play on anyways. It seems my residence never loses power, even through hurricanes.

I live on the Gulf Coast. There're very few occasions where there isn't a bad storm blowing through. Most of the power lines/homes around here are built to withstand a good bit of storm damage. Unless it's a particularly bad storm and my number one priority is safety, I wouldn't hesitate to do a bit of gaming.

There's been a single time when my power went out during a storm so I'm pretty confident regarding gaming in bad weather. A more proeminent problem is the internet connection and how awful it gets when it's raining like hell.

Nope. There's a lot of storms round here, so the power goes off if any storms occur.

There's always handheld systems to keep my amusement if I really want to play video games at that point.
