So what's everyone's game of the year? I'm not limiting this to just games released in 2014, just your favourite game or games you played for the first time.

For me, it would have to be a tie between Cave Story and Half-Life 2. 2014 marked the year I became a pc gamer, so I hadn't played eith er of these two yet and wow did they blow me away.

Disgaea: D2: A Brighter Darkness. It is the sequel I always wanted them to make (except it lacked my favorite character - Vyers aka Mid-Boss). They took all of the best elements from the 4 previous Disgaea games (which I couldn't stand 2-4) and built up on them whilst taking the series back to its original roots.

Do you mean new games or games we played?

New game: Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds

New game played: Fire Emblem Awakening.

Though I'd have to look at all the game to make a final decision.

Smash 3DS is mine. Of course one that I played but honestly it's my favorite out of the ones I've played. It kept me entertained the entire year, or at least the reveals of characters did. Haven't played very many new game's this year though.

Dude, lol...

So "your favorite game you played for the first time ever regardless of release so long as it was FIRST played in 2014 by you".

Whoops lol. I was in a rush.

So yeah. FEA was my favorite. A Link Between Worlds is second.

I'm going to say Conception II.  It's a weird choice because of Sm4sh and the new Pokemon games, as well as me getting Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix for Christmas, but at the end of the day the one that's stood out most to me is the one I took a gamble on and wound up loving.  Out of all the games that I got this year that I didn't know if I'd like or not, it was the only game I became addicted to up until I cleared it and got all the endings.  For me, things like Pokemon or Smash are always going to be enjoyable, meaning it's the newcomers that really stand out in a year.  Thus it gets my vote.

Hmmm, this is a tough one. My favorite game that's new this year is probably Dragon Age: Inquisition for the PS4... I've really enjoyed it, though I got stuck on a boss battle two months ago and haven't been able to get back to it yet with all the holiday stuff going on.

Other favorites for this year are Batman Arkham Asylum for the PS3- I've had it for the PC on Steam forever, but it crashes on my machine so I'd never been able to play it. On the last boss fight for that one, and have the next two games lined up and ready to go! I also really enjoyed Super Stardust Delta for the Vita, Bayonetta, and Mario Kart 8. I'm currently sucked into Skyrim, once again. I've played it for 200 hours on the PC, but we tacked the legendary edition for the PS3 onto an amazon order for Puppeteer, and I can't seem to tear myself away from it. Again.

Wow, most of my favs this year have been for Sony consoles. :/

Have you played the original Half-Life? I actually liked the first way more than the second.

My Game of the Year is kinda hard to nail down. This is the first year where I didn't play a game that had me addicted from being to end. There were some good games in there, but this year just wasn't on the same level as previous. A lot of this is probably due to me not gaming on my laptop anymore due to it overheating too easily. With all that said, my game of the year is Mario Kart 8. I didn't get it until Christmas, but I've been playing it almost non-stop. My wife loves watching me play it and I have a blast playing it with my siblings. I haven't had a Mario Kart game since Double Dash so all of the updates are amazing to me.

I've been playing through the franchise and started with the first one. And while it was pretty good, I just found the second to be so much fun. Like, some games have really awesome bits, but HL 2 is just a compilation of awesome bits. I'm on episode two now and I'm going to finish the expansions to the first one after I've finished it. I just really want half life 3.

I think I would rate them like this: HL1>HL2:EP2>HL2>>>HL2:EP1
Some stretches of 2 lasted a little too long for my taste.

LMFAO HL2... "long stretches"... agreed. The whole game was a hovercraft simulator. Such a let down after the first game's awesomeness, imo. Too much boat and not enough FPS and beating things with a wrench. It is like they combined the worst elements of HL1 and Wind Waker.

I'm also going to add The Lego Movie on 360 to my list. I just bought it the other day and couldn't put it down. The movie, itself, was great and the game even moreso since it kept all of the best stock archive footage from the movie and added a plethora of non-stop dialogue (not in the actual movie) as you play that keeps you laughing. I just deleted it off my HDD after obtaining every achievement and 100%ing the game.

I LOVED the hovercraft section! It maked me feel like an action hero! There were awesome bits like where the combine would collapse a pillar onto the river and you just have to make a really quick u-turn, or you'd just drive on anyway using the rubble as a ramp! I thought that section was really dynamic flowed well, nicely broken up by a couple of physics puzzles and on foot segments.

I wasn't such a big fan of the time with the jeep since it didn't have as much input from the combine in trying to stop your progress. It felt like the jeep only served to move you faster and you didn't need to move fast unlike with the hovercraft.

Jeep, hovercraft... the point is the game had WAY too much driving and vehicle time for a horror / sci-fi FPS game. I drive less in Saints Row 3 ffs.

I bet you anything that most people are thinking 'Super Smash Bros for Wii U' about now.

It's certainly what the gaming journalists are choosing for game of the year...

I think he's asking what your personal GotY is, unless you're saying SSB Wii U is yours...
