Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions is the latest installment for the Spiderman games and this time it is going to be bigger in "multiple ways". Rather than let you control one Spider-man, you are control 4 Spider-man and they are all from different dimensions.
You start off the story by stopping Mysterio from stealing an artifact from the museum. But as you struggle to capture Mysterio, you accidentally shattered the relic into 12 pieces and the fragments spread out to 4 worlds. Then Madame Web appears and holds you responsible for this incident so you have to collect all the fragments from all 4 worlds.
In this game, you will follow the Amazing, Ultimate, Noir and Spiderman 2099. They all have the same basic combat system but each of them has their own costume, moves and personality. Basically, you will cycle through different characters and fight against the bosses you met before like Kraven the Hunter and Green Goblin. But like the different dimension of spidey, they are also given a different look in each dimension. There is also a new boss that was introduced in this game and his name is Hammerhead.
First let’s look at Amazing Spiderman. The gameplay pretty much feels like a comic as the game is rendered in animated cel-shaded style. Your first villain is Kraven and in that level you will learn how to navigate around and combat moves.
Then the game changes when you enter Noir. Rather than go around and beating people up like in the other Spidey games, you are asked to use stealth and surprise to take down your enemies. Lights does matter inside the game as something simple like firecrackers and light the place up and reveal your hiding place. The world is colored in black and white following the theme of Sin City. The animation for the stealth finisher is also one of the best animations in the game.
Then in Ultimate Spiderman, you are faced with the problem of Venom suit trying to take over Parker. The gameplay is pretty much the same as Amazing but cel-shaded is very saturated and you have Rage energy to unleash your combos.
And now about the 2099 Spiderman. It is set in a time where the Heroic Age has passed and Meta-humans have died out. The level is very futuristic as the developers play around with the lights. This level is very different from the rest.
