I don't know if anyone else has this problem at their local game store however this problem is all too common at the local game store near me which is a big game store company. They tend to employ people who they know rather than people whom know what they are talking about or even what they are doing.

The amount of times I have gone in, spoken to an employee there and they have had not clue what I am talking about is pretty much the biggest joke ever. When I mentioned it to my brother he told me he knew exactly what I was on about because him and a friend had gone there to browse and were talking amongst themselves about games and a woman who was buying for her son asked my brother and his friend if they worked their to which they replied no. It was the reply from the woman that shocked my brother and his friend and me when my brother told me, her reply was "That's a shame because you sound like you know what you are talking about"

My brother looking for a part time job at current until he finds something in game design deems it pointless trying to get a job at this store because he knows he will not stand a chance as he knows nobody that works their currently enough for them to pay any attention which is a shame.

Game store companies I feel lose out by employing people who have no clue because it turns people away and puts them off.

Have you ever had this problem?

My area has a gamestop and a local tri state store and both are staffed by long time employees who know what they are talking about. I can't speak for the retail stores like kmart and walmart but I'm sure their knowledge is zilch.

It really just depends on your area.

I don't even have a gamestore on my area lol. I wish I had one with clueless employees. Would have to rely on digital download that much lol

In Game Stop and some other used game stores. I've run into employee's who know little or nothing about video games. I am actually beginning to understand why game stores do this.

The games pretty much sale themselves and corporate doesn't like when their employee's stand around all day socializing with the customers all day about games. Even a Game Stop manager told me this. But than again, each store has its preferences when it comes to hiring.

When I worked at Wal-Mart, they were always transferring or firing employees in the Electronics section because all they did was stand around and talk to customers when they have a scheduled routine to get done. Unloading trucks, unloading boxes and most important, pricing. If they weren't doing either of those things, than it was time for them to move on to another occupation.

They've had to fire multiple employee's because all they did was stand around, not getting any thing done just talking about games and consoles.

Even a guy that I know at a used video store hires his friends and family. He doesn't hire any outside help.

I worked at a game place myself for a few months, but quit because I needed a better paying job. It was family owned. Playing video games is fun, dealing with people who ask about them and just come in just to tell you what they did in a video game, and not buy anything, becomes irritating pretty quick, it gets old.

I'm not kidding. Imagine a customer who comes in and just wants to talk to you about a game for a retro system that was 5-6 years old, and really.... you could care less about it. Seriously. Imagine someone wanting to come in and just talk about an old Online PC game that they were playing, that you've never heard of and they are talking to you as if you've played it and asking questions about it. There's no telling how many customers that I've told that I couldn't talk to them all day. If they had questions about some of our deals or a game they were going to buy, than sure.

I remember a guy I worked with, who loved Fallout 3, all he wanted to do was just talk about  Fallout 3, and fans of that game would come in to talk to him for 30 minutes or longer. The manager caught him doing this on one fine day, told him he could talk to his friends.....but he said that he was a customer now and that he could leave with them. He'd hire someone else.
