A 23 year-old man has been fined by a German court after drugging his girlfriend so that he could...play some more video games with a friend.

The Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung report (via The Local) that the unnamed man committed the crime last year, when his girlfriend arrived home late to find him playing console games with a buddy.
She’d been hoping for a quiet night’s rest, not two men shouting at a TV, so the man prepared her a drugged cup of tea. She slept until noon the next day.

“Then I got up and drove to work although I was nodding off again and again,” the woman—now the guilty party’s ex-girlfriend—told the judge.

Having admitted the crime first to the woman, and then the judge, the man was fined €500. “Your girlfriend slept long and deeply”, the Judge said, “which didn’t harm her, but this is certainly a premeditated bodily harm.”

Yeah, no. You just don't do this!

Eh... I don't really see the harm in it... He could have just given her some sleeping pills bought from the pharmacy, but if she had a stubborn demeanor (considering that some girls who are not gamers don't understand their boyfriends' passion for gaming), she might have refused to take them...

soooo you don't mind coming home and someone drugging you to sleep without your knowledge?

It was her boyfriend, not a random stranger, the drug was harmless and she was not abused while asleep. And yeah, I would mind, but not enough as to sue them. Worst case scenario, just break up with him, put the same drug in his beer and leave him a goodbye note...

On YouTube there are couples that play pranks on each other and post them on their channels. I've seen some pranks a lot worse than what this guy did, and their partners didn't alert the authorities.

It is crazy that she decided to drive to work while nodding off again and again. I wonder if the woman could face charges for driving while nodding off like Drunk driver, and drivers who use illegal drugs like weed, meth, and Ecstasy while driving.

Maybe, the woman wanted money for pain and suffering caused by her ex-boyfriend betraying her, and drugging her without her permission. But, I feel €500 is a low settlement compared to settlements in Canada, and the US which can be in the thousands, and millions of dollars.

Damn, that's pretty messed up, seriously. If he wanted to play games so badly and she needed rest, he could have suggested sleeping pills to help her get some rest, something better then drugging her. Doesn't matter if you know the person or not, that isn't okay.

Drugging someone is illegal, and it should be. Plain and simple. It isn't okay just because your emotionally involved with the person. In fact, I'd say it was a lot worse.

Okay, I've seen this news before, but either way... it's disturbing as hell to be honest.  To be so obsessed with games that you'd actually drug someone to keep them from interfering shows a perhaps almost sociopathic disregard for anyone else, and makes the gaming community looking (unfortunately) rather bad in the process.
