Naturally when there is an anime about gaming, I'm pretty much obligated to watch. The anime is a drama slice of life anime but it really lays down the love circle going on here pretty thick, to the point you're being driven as mad as the characters are. Overall it was pretty amusing, even used actual video games though the anime seems to fizzle out near the end.

Anyone here see this? If you're not much into gaming, you may not enjoy this.

This looks fun to watch! And I just got done watching 'hi score girl' too -- major emphasis on the fighting games I think. Thanks for the recommendation

hi score girl? that a anime or movie?

I gotta give the guy credit, his favorite game is Star Ocean 2, it’s nice hearing someone praise a Star Ocean game that isn’t the third game.

I only played the PS2 games and onward for SO.

There’s only one on the PS2, but yeah, Star Ocean is one of those franchises where most fans only care about one game, which is Til the End of Time, the rest of the franchise might as well not exist.

Well the later ones were lacking... something. I somewhat played one of the first ones, not enough to judge though.

not CGI I hope?

The first two are pretty good, I just wish the fans acknowledged their existence, there’s nothing really wrong with them.

Though a lot of less popular franchises tend to have that one game that most people care about, and don’t care about the rest of the franchise at all. That and a lot of game franchises have that issue of, the first one you played is the best one.

I got a ROM somewhere, I'll have to dust it off and enjoy it.

For Star Ocean 2, there really isn’t much of a difference between the PS1 and the PSP versions, just better voice acting. Since it’s only available through second hand copies, doubt Squeenix is hurting through emulation.

For the first game, the only officially translated versions are of the remake, which IMO is the superior version. It uses the same engine as its sequel. It is available on the PS4 and Switch and goes on sale a lot. If you played Tales of Phantasia, the plot will be eerily familiar, but it was made by the same exact people so... yeah.

Shouldn't it be a SNES game?

Well the first game originally is an SNES game, but when it got remade for the PSP, they just used the engine from the second game, and that’s the only officially translated version. It’s also not 100% translated iirc, and there’s multiple translated versions.

Imo the battle system is better in the remake, and less research needs to be done for which translation you need to snag.

The second game was originally on PS1.
