I agree anything can be addictive. I think most of these people who are addicted to games have other problems in their life which make them game to escape from reality instead of fixing their problems.
I haven't really played a game which is addictive in a long time because many games these days seem too short, require huge updates over the internet, and have paid DLC or in-game purchases for more gameplay, and extra features which makes the game less fun. Plus, game makers now release un-finish games like Battlefield 4 which lags, and have save errors which make games less fun until they release a update.
