In an effort to strengthen its hold on the digital gaming space, U.S.retailer GameStop today announced it has acquired social games platform Kongregate, a browser-based gaming website.
Kongregate follows a YouTube-like model that allows users to upload Flash games they created to the network.
"Kongregate advances GameStop's digital strategy by providing a gaming platform for casual, mobile and browser games that can be promoted and played by our existing gamers," said GameStop CEO J. Paul Raines.
The website currently hosts around 10 million monthly players. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
