GameStop Wants Cheaper Consoles

Consumers hoping for a price cut on video game hardware have a new—and powerful—ally.

While the video game industry has proved relatively resistant to the recession so far, the CEO of GameStop the industry's largest specialty retailer, says lowering the price of the leading three consoles is necessary to keep momentum going.

Dan DeMatteo notes that he'd particularly like to see a cut in the price of Sony's PlayStation 3, which at $399 is the most expensive game machine on the market.

"That price point is clearly an issue in this economy," he says.

I'm with Gamestop also, if the price on game consoles is lowered then it should help keep the gaming market flowing.

yes, sony needs to really think about how much their console is actually worth. since their losing in most console sales ..

they really shouldn't have let the blu-ray player be their main draw to the system ... but allow it for an add-on, so the PS3 woulda been cheaper.

Lowering the price on games by 5-10 dollars will also help raise sales since games are also expensive like consoles.

Also PS3 should have price drop coming this year around Fall/Winter.
