Starting June 1, 2013 Gamestop will no longer accept PS2 trade ins on system, games, and accessories.

IGN has received this letter from Gamestop explaining:

“We can confirm that as of June 1st we will no longer be accepting the PS2 console or its related product for trades. We know that the 12 year old system is a popular one and for many gamers, GameStop is the only place to find a great selection of its games. We will still offer a wide selection of the PS2 hardware, accessories and games in many of our stores and online for several months, based on remaining stock from trades.

We are very excited about the upcoming PS4 and are making room in our stores for it and other new platforms expected this fall.”
I wouldn't trade in anything PS2, first off I doubt gamestop would give a decent trade in on PS2 and I'm sure in the far future disc PS2 games and stuff will be a high value collecting items.

Heh, yeah I read that after I made my post. But like GA said, most stores may already be closing up and who knows how much PS2 stuff would be left at the Gamestops around here.

I've never traded in anything to Gamestop. First, they rip you off. I attempted one time to bring in some of my older games. The money they were offering was down right offensive. Keep onto your PS2. It might not suit you now to keep it, but down the road you'll have the urge to play it. And you'll be thankful you kept it.

Not suprised at this. And as the guy above said Gamestop do rip you off I trade my stuff in to smaller outlets and it works out me getting more.
On the topic of PS2, I heard the next Fifa game will be on PS4,PS3, and PS2?? Is this true or just a rumour.

\I hate gamestop too to tell you the truth. The give you so little for trade in game and they resell it at a higher price. I do agree that they should sell old-school video game consoles so people have a better place to get them rather than the pawn shop or flea market.

I still don't know how Gamestop is in business. I'm surprise they aren't going out like the way of Blockbuster. Gamestop is overpriced and most of the time an inconvenience. On top of that, you can't go in there expecting to buy one thing without someone trying to upsell you everything they have on the front counter. Just an annoying time every time I go in there. From now on I'm getting all my games from Amazon or Target.

My local Gamestop actually stopped taking PS2 last year, although they were still selling what they had. I have to admit, the PS2 had a legendary run, but it's not a shocker that it's being phased out; if anything, it's surprising that it's been around this long.
