Gangnam Style Passed YouTube's Video View Limit

Psy's hit 2012 single Gangnam Style has amassed so many clicks on YouTube that it exceeded the maximum view counter.

According to YouTube's post on Google Plus, the technology behind its view counter couldn't keep up with the popularity of the pop song video:

    "We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. 'Gangnam Style' has been viewed so many times we had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808)!"

The Gangnam Style YouTube video currently features an easter egg if you hover over the video's view counter. When a YouTube video breaks the new 9.2 quintillion limit, we'll be sure to let you know.

Same here. I'm kind of surprised, and at the same time not. It is a fun song. It's just been out for awhile. I thought it would have at least died down a little bit.

Does anyone know how the view count works? Does it count for every page load?
