I got a CRT because it was the cheapest option to not make my retro consoles look like crap. I tried the other options, but you have to spend a ton of money.

If you own one console, it won’t be too bad since you can buy a decent cable, but when you own multiple consoles, the cables will be total up to being expensive. Or you could buy a single upscaler box, but they’re also expensive if you want one that isn’t crap.

For the clone consoles, one of them is already expensive enough. Replacing more than one console? Even more expensive. Own anything newer than a SNES? No clone for you.

So I ended up buying a small CRT for $10 at a Salvation Army store. $10 for a TV, or $200+ for a non-crap upscaler. Hmmmm

I wouldn't go less than a 32 inch for a CRT, but they are way too heavy for me to get one. Plus I wouldn't have a stand for it.

Tbh you’d be surprised at how easy it is to see things on a 20” CRT. Back then they assumed people owned smaller TV’s, so they compensated the text size and things are easy to see. Nowadays it’s the opposite, where they’re assuming you own a massive TV and make your menu text and stuff tiny.

Maybe the workers from the store or a few friends can help you place the CRT on a stand, and the store selling a used CRT may also include a stand with the TV.

It is too bad there are not any affordable household lifting tools like a small remote control crane or fork lift which make lifting heavy objects easier.

I was given a CRT to try for my retro gaming fix, but it seemed to have a slight brightness flicker and it was quite off-putting..

In the end I decided to go for HD Link cables from Pound Technology to play retro consoles on modern TVs, and would strongly recommend them.
