Sales for Ghost of Tsushima, developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions, have exceeded 13 million copies since its 2020 release. In a recent interview, the game's creative directors, Nate Fox and Jason Connell, discussed this milestone and the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei. The sequel is described as a spiritual successor, evolving from the core essence of the original game.

Fox revealed that during early development of the sequel, the team focused on identifying the "DNA" of a Ghost game, aiming to immerse players in the beauty and allure of feudal Japan. To capture this, they embarked on several research trips to Northern Japan. After visiting numerous locations, they ultimately chose Mount Yotei as the sequel's primary setting due to its breathtaking landscapes.

Ghost of Tsushima has earned praise from both fans and prominent figures in the gaming industry, including Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, who recently expressed admiration for the game. Additionally, a film adaptation is in the works, with director Chad Stahelski confirming that the script was completed after two years of development. Stahelski hinted that the project is nearing a production start.

The original Ghost of Tsushima launched on July 17, 2020, for PlayStation 4, followed by a *Director's Cut* version for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which included the Iki Island expansion, released on August 20, 2021. The PC version of the Director’s Cut, developed by Nixxes Software, arrived on May 16, 2024.
