Day 2 of the Google I/O was all about Chrome and they definitely delivered some savory new announcements. Along with highlighting new features for Chrome OS, Google also announced that the OS is finally hitting retailers in the form of Chromebooks.

Chrome OS, the operating system based around the sole purpose of using web applications to navigate through a Google Chrome web browser-style interface, has added a number of new features and applications to help bring the OS to the masses.

A major theme of Chrome OS is the idea of being always connected and now you can upload files directly to the cloud through various services (like Picasa) by using an improved file management system. Offline versions of Google Docs, Gmail and Google Calendar will also be available.

In addition, the system will include the recently announced Google Music Beta and YouTube Movies, as well as Hulu, Netflix and Pandora. Oh, and in case you wanted it, Angry Birds has been ported to Chrome OS as well.

Announced alongside the OS updates, Google also introduced the first line of retail notebooks running Chrome OS, wittingly titled "Chromebooks." The Chromebooks boast an impressive 8-second boot, instant on, and full day batteries.
