Revellers are using Google Earth to find private swimming pools for illegal parties.

Once a site is chosen organisers use social networking sites like Facebook and Bebo to make arrangements.

Residents with pools have woken up to find youngsters having a dip or have even come back from work to find their pool full of beer cans, police have said.

Earlier this week sixteen people are thought to have gatecrashed two pools near Bournemouth overnight and there are fears the craze may spread over the summer.

Rules typically include wearing fancy dress and bringing a bike to allow a fast getaway if partygoers are disturbed.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police warned owners of swimmings pools to be "on their guard."

if I woke up to people in my swimming pool. I grab a gun and fire off a few shots.

Around here you'd get charged for killing them, but you could seriously injure them (within reason) if you had a "No Trespassing" sign.

I have to say that I've never swam in a person's pool that I don't personally know, but I have been to a few parties while parents are gone..heh.

should have made that more clear. I meant fire a few around's in the air to scare them off.

We use to go pool jumping a lot when I was younger (before google earth). It was fun. We wouldn't trash the pools or anything, we just would go for a quick swim and then move on. Most of our neighbors didn't care about it.
