In a country that has no shortage of vending machines, Google Japan has decided to join the fray. The company has announced three dedicated Google Play machines that will sell 18 different gaming titles which are a mix of free-to-play and paid-for titles. To use the machines, you'll need a smartphone running Android 4.0 and NFC -- and that's about it. You rest the phone on the tray below the screen, and NFC pairing takes care of the rest.
Cool, I think this is great for people with Smartphones, but don't have a credit card, or reliable internet to use to buy gaming apps. I wonder does this vending machine accept coins, paper money, and giftcards as payment.
Hopefully, these Game App vending machines get release outside of Japan.
I agree, it maybe a harder sell in America, but vending machines could be popular with Kids and teens with tablets who do not have credit cards to pay for apps, or a cell phone contract where you can pay for your App purchases with your cell phone bills.
I wouldn't really be that surprised, if they did roll out these vending machines across the world as it sounds like the sort of thing that Google would usually do.
