Google is reportedly considering running its own wireless network. Sources tell The Information that company executives have been discussing a plan to offer wireless service in areas where it's already installed Google Fiber high-speed internet. Details are vague, but there are hints that it's interested in becoming a mobile virtual network operator or MVNO, buying access to a larger network at wholesale rates and reselling it to customers. Sources say that Google spoke to Verizon about the possibility in early 2014, and that it talked to Sprint about a similar possibility in early 2013, before the company was officially acquired by Softbank.
Hopefully, this means consumers finally get unlimited data, text, and voice talk time for a low monthly price. I wonder would there will be affordable prepaid plans for people who don't need to use their cell phone every month, or don't use their cell phone much each month.
Are they trying to become a monopoly? Because this 'I want to pursue so and so option' is making it seem more and more like it and that is exactly what we don't want or need.
I think Google is just finding ways to spend their billions of dollars in the bank before the money has less spending power like back in the past a car can be bought for under $7000 in 1964. They spend the money on creating companies which would make them more money like Adsense which now is on many website which creates revenue for both Google, YouTube and website owners.
I think the consumer wants more competition instead of just having a few or one options for wireless carriers, so Google becoming a wireless company as well could mean cheaper prices for cell service for all cell phone users because of increase competition.
If google pulls this off plus their high fiber internet service, they will have a monopoly over ISP since everyone will flock to them. High speeds that are reliable and fairly priced will take over all ISP markets.
I'm sure Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Apple may also make an ISP to compete with Google because Facebook, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Apple also has Billions of dollars to spend on making an ISP.
I read Facebook is planning to make a wireless flying drone base ISP to give internet to developing places like Africa, and Facebook is trying to connect the whole world to the internet.
I think Yahoo still has SBC DSL internet, and AOL still has Dial-up internet. It is a shame that AOL and Yahoo does not spend its billions in the bank to create cheap ISP internet for everyone, but instead to choose to spend their money on Apps, social networks like Tumblr and Bebo, Online video, and news sites which maybe fads.
I agree they may partner up with ISP to give them faster speeds while sites which can't afford to pay ISP for faster speeds will get slower connections.
