I am completely reliant on my GPS for navigation. I'm always thrown but politely listen when people start giving me direction somewhere but inevitably I follow up "awesome, thanks for that - can I have the address just in case I miss a turn or something?"

Do you use GPS?

I mostly print out my maps from Google Maps with a printer because I do not need to worry about losing my phone with a GPS, and GPS can be somewhat distracting compared to stopping and looking at a map I printed out. I also don't need to worry about draining my phone's battery when using a map.

I also know most of the big streets where I live.

Also cling to it, I'll need it even more if I go to a new city.

I connect my phone to my car so that I can use Android Auto. Even for destinations that I can drive to without any instructions, I tend to use the GPS as it helps avoid traffic and any diversions. Just extremely useful.

I find it best to have GPS, but not use it. Having that safety net was an amazing way to learn my local area and discover new ways home as getting lost was simply a few buttons away from heading home. Smartphones were just starting to come out and their GPS functions were awful, so I had a Garmin back in the day and still find a dedicated GPS unit preferred.

I did a 5 hour drive yesterday because we're spending Thanksgiving with family in a different city. On long drives I tend to just switch of the GPS during long stretches of drive time as I find that I can't relax constantly glancing at the map!

I had a 3-hour long drive like that but just kept the GPS on since it's always a bit useful to get directions based on any diversions or heavy traffic that comes up. Plus, I don't trust myself to just rely on the road signs on the motorway :tearsofjoy:

Road signs are evil as far as I'm concerned.

It's even worse when they're covered by trees of other things. We have a lot of roundabouts over here as well and a lot of the signs about what lane to be in are on the road. Unfortunately, half of them can't be read properly.

I went to pick up my runners bib yesterday and my GPS took me to the exact address the website stated however, where I needed to park was a couple of streets over. I am so lost when I drive downtown. It took me at least another 15 minutes to find somewhere to park so I can go into the convention center. GPS are great but you can't rely on them 100%.
