The future of digital distribution is slowly advancing, and GameStop is working hard not to be crushed as it passes. IndustryGamers reports that at a recent analyst meeting, the company outlined plans for how to deal with changing times. Among the ideas was one to "make a strategic investment or acquire an aggregator of online games." This has set off speculation that the company may be looking into one of the popular online game download services, like Steam. Given that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all have their own console spaces locked down, a PC distributor seems to be the only path available to the retailer.

The company's other plans are more standard, including a bigger push on sales of online points cards, and increasing their current PC distribution with the intention of doubling sales year-over-year. Still, it's the investment idea that is sure to create the most buzz, as gamers speculate what the company could be looking into.
