In late December, The ESEA (an esports community that runs a popular online Counter-Strike league) got its security breached affecting 1.5 million users as their data was stolen and now released after ESEA refused to pay the hacker responsible $100,000 USD.

If you’ve used any ESEA services you should change your passwords on other sites as soon as possible and be on the lookout for suspicious requests for personal information.

Full story here.

Anyone here affected?

Not me but even if they paid the hacker the dough, how would they confirm that the hacker wouldn't keep the data or share it regardless of the deal's outcome? I think they did the right thing by refusing and hopefully warned their customer base asap about the breach.

I feel they are in the right, never pay hackers holding out on accounts.
