Both the EVE Online servers and The Escapist Magazine website have gone down today as the result of an increasing amount of hacker attacks against video game companies and websites.
The attacks, carried out by hacker group "LulzSec", took place this morning, with EVE Online and The Escapist Magazine still down as of this writing. The hackers also targeted the MineCraft website, but appparently it is now back up after being down earlier this morning.
LulzSec, who carried out similar attacks against Bethesda and Fox, also claimed responsibility for the crippling attacks against Sony that took place in April, which compromised thousands of user accounts and resulted in the shutdown of PSN for over a month.
They claim they are doing this to expose security flaws and weaknesses in companies that carry personal information of customers, but if their official Twitter page and logo indicate anything, It's that they're just doing it for the "lulz".

The list of game developers and publishers targeted by hackers in recent months is growing.
Today, a post on the Bethesda Blog is warning fans that an unlawful intrusion was made on the company's websites in order to access data. While Bethesda believes that no financial information was taken, the hackers might have gained access to some user names, email addresses and/or passwords.
As a precaution, the company says users of their community forums, Brink statistics site and all other Bethesda sites should immediately change their passwords.
"If your username/email address/password is similar to what you use on other sites, we recommend changing the password at those sites as well," Bethesda writes. "As we don’t know what further plans the hackers may have, we suggest that you keep an eye out for suspicious emails and account activity."
The company adds, "We regret any inconvenience that these attacks on us cause for you. These attacks will be evaluated to determine if there are any additional protections we might take that would be prudent."
