In an effort to migrate the remaining Halo Wars users to Halo Waypoint, a centralized hub for Halo content, Microsoft announced it will be closing the HaloWars.com website and taking stat-tracking and leaderboards offline next month.

The announcement was posted on the website's official forums earlier this week. The multiplayer will remain functional, but HaloWars.com, its forums, and online stat-tracking will be removed forever. A fifth title update for the game will go live shortly before then that fixes certain theater mode issues and prepares the game for disconnecting from HaloWars.com.

"Register for Halo Waypoint's forums, if you haven't done so already," a moderator stated. "Enjoy the time you have here on HaloWars.com and print-screen or copy-paste any of your favorite old posts and/or game history data, since that will all be taken offline on December 15th.

"We won't be carrying over accounts, posts, or anything else between the two forums."

Halo Wars was released on Mar. 3, 2009 and quickly sold over one million copies. Its developer, Ensemble Studios, was shuttered by Microsoft shortly after the completion of the game.
