Has Mario lost a lot of popularity recently?

Due to too many games being released in a short amount of time and the lower quality of the New Super Mario Bros series?

Because with New Super Mario Bros 2 and U selling decent but nowhere near as well as their predecessors and 3D World kind of failing, I have this worry that Nintendo might have nearly killed the golden goose with all their near monthly Mario games and things.

So what do you think? Has Mario lost popularity recently? Could its future sales be affected by the huge range in quality present in recent titles?

I don't know about the popularity in terms of sales numbers (since I generally don't pay any attention to that stuff)

but I can definitely say the recent games (like New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros Wii, New Super Mario Bros 2, New Super Mario Bros U, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World, Super Duper Mario Rainbow Factory, etc.)

have very much lost that certain charm that made them so unique and memorable.

The creativity, the originality, the weirdness, the variety,....

But the worst thing about it is that Nintendo doesn't seem like they're trying very hard to get back to those days.

People just complain too much. The Mario series couldn't be any better right now. Granted I haven't played Super Mario 3D World, but the NSMB games are still great and they stay true to the original flow of a Mario 2D sidescroller.

I believe you're wrong about the first New Super Mario Bros., I think that one was a great game and had charm because there weren't any games like that. But for the next few games, they were just like the original, in which you are correct in saying they lost their charm.

If mario loses popularity Nintendo will fall.....But Mario never loses! That's for sure! :gameboy: :banghead: :luigi:

True!

Isn't that what NinPat just said?

Overall, I think they need to just focus on one big Mario game instead of making several new ones. MarioKart 8 looks good, based off what I've seen, and maybe that'll get the Mario game designers to realize that better made games make more money, since that's all they care about.
