Have you used the PS1's system link feature?

Playing four player games nowadays on one TV using one console is very very normal. But back when we had a PS1, four player games were very hard to come by. The norm was 2 player modes (for versus games and some side-scrolling action adventure games) and 2-player split screen mode (for racing games and third person games). The console was able to provide four player goodness if two PlayStations were connected via System Link. I never tried out this feature though. I never bothered with it... What about you?

I never heard of this, I knew if you wanted to play with 4 people you just get the expansion port that adds two more controller slots.

That's a multitap you're saying. It's a device that allows you to connect four controllers at once or a maximum of 8 controllers if you use a multitap on each controller port on the PlayStation 1.

The PS1 had very limited graphical capabilities. Take for instance Ridge Racer Type 4. It only allowed for two player split screen. If you wanted to play with 3 other people, you had to get another system and link two PlayStations together.
