The Department of Homeland Security on Monday advised computer users to consider using alternatives to Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer web browser until the company fixes a security flaw that hackers have exploited to launch attacks.
The bug is the first high-profile security flaw to emerge since Microsoft stopped providing security updates for Windows XP earlier this month. That means PCs running the 13-year old operating system could remain unprotected against hackers seeking to exploit the newly uncovered flaw, even after Microsoft figures out how to defend against it.
I use firefox, but my nephew snuck on my computer yesterday to get on the internet and used IE which pissed me off lol.
I had just told him not to get on my computer and told his dad not to use IE as well since I heard about it yesterday and I knew my brother used IE all the time.
Haha about time somebody piped up about the crapness of IE. It amazes me how many people still use IE despite the obvious issues it and despite how much faster and more reliable other browsers are.
I saw this on the local TV news that is telling people not to use IE because it is unsafe. I think this was the first time the local news talked about IE being unsafe.
I think most people who use IE at work, school, or other people's homes don't have a choice because they are not allowed to use alternative browsers like Firefox, Chrome, or Opera.
It is also strange that so many people use the internet to search for stuff like homework help, but don't search for alternatives to IE, and keep using IE for web browsing.
