How can I get letters from 2009?

Is there an option to backdate the letters?

Probably a time traveler went back and sent you a note in 2009. Joking, but I don't know, maybe the date on their 3DS was set back that far or so.

You set your date back to whatever,and you can send letters from 1999 or so.

I also did send a letter to all my 3DS friends from the year 2050 a note saying something about the future.

Send a dated note for sometime in 10 years. That ought to drive someone mad.

If you change your date to a future date, and then send a message, they will still receive it, but the date will have that future date. For example, you've all got my message saying Merry Christmas dated December 25, 2012, right?

The date range of the 3DS is January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2050. So if you want to do January 1, 2051, you have to set it to December 31, 2050 and wait until the clock goes past midnight (set it to 23:59:59 to make it quicker, obviously).
