How effective are internet petitions that people sign online.

I think online petitions and protests are pretty effective at geting some Sci-Fi shows back which were cancelled.

Online petitions show that many people care about a problem if enough people sign it.

I sign online petitions to not raise taxs were I live, or cut funding for public transportaion.

I really think they are not very helpful since many of the names could be easily forged. But I really haven't herd of a online petition working for something though.
