How many of you guys love an anime so much, you continue on into the manga?

I don't know how people can resist it, but I find that when I'm really into an anime and am dying to know what happens next, I just head on over to the manga. Although it's sometimes torture because I'm not able to talk about it to my friends, as they've only gone as far as the episodes released in the anime! How do you guys feel about this?! Sometimes, it just feels like cheating to me. lol

I did find reading manga a little strange. Once I started reading a few online my opinion changed. The only anime that I've followed into the manga was Brynhildr in the Darkness, and this was simply because a cliffhanger on one episode was so good I couldn't wait.

When I first started watching anime Naruto was a big deal for me. When the fillers started coming in or the long delays between episodes I finally started to read the manga. Honestly, it took me awhile to get used to the comic, but after awhile you feel like you're watching the show.

Outside of Naruto, I've done similar things with Berserk and Claymore. Wasn't too fond of the direction Berserk went though so I don't bother with that any more.

Most of the anime I've watched were adapted from finished manga. So I only read the manga to compare the two or in the case of Evangelion, I read to see if the manga is better.  One exception is Elfen Lied, which had a mediocre anime and a manga that doesn't fare any better.

I've only done it with three series, D.Gray-man, Bleach and Attack on Titan.

Sadly the first one is in limbo.

I suppose that I'm a casual viewer. I mean, I like it when I like it, and even enough that I can famliarize myself with some tropes and genres, more about the cultural context and so on.

I hope that the anime versions stand on their own, however, because no matter how much I love the series, it has never occurred to me to go find the manga and read it. I might for Tekkon Kinkreet, but even though I'm a huge fan of Haruhi Suzumiya I just don't get the impulse of a must-have-the-whole-series-and-every-aspect-and-all-the-merchandise. I don't know why. I mean, it's not as if the manga is cash-grab merchandise, usually, which is a sentiment that's the root of my disinterest in buying say action figures (except the mechas, when I get to assemble them myself)... I mean, it's an extension of the story that I've heard is even better for character development than the anime where there's a time limit or episode limit and they have to cut stuff.

I should get in manga, though...one of these days.

I wouldn't read the manga/source material unless I had to, or I felt like it was the better choice. If I knew that there was going to be an anime adaption of the rest of the series, and I liked the anime adaption, I'd just wait for more anime instead of reading the manga/source material.

There are however times when I choose not to watch the anime first, because I know that the anime doesn't cover all of the source material. For example, I don't want to watch Spice And Wolf, because I know that the anime doesn't cover all the novels, so I'd rather read all the novels first, and then watch the anime adaption of the first 4 novels, or whatever it covers. That way i won't be dissapointed that there isn't more anime, or something like that. It just feels better to read the books before watching the anime adaption... In a way. Note that, I am intending to read the light novels in japanese, so it might take a while before I get that good in reading japanese.

There are lots of anime which didn't get fully adapted into anime that I am going to read the manga of, but other than that... as I said earlier, I think anime is a better medium, in general :)
