Do you think it'll be a Wii level success? A Virtual Boy level failure? Or something in between?

The Wii-U sells will pick up, once some more great titles are released also i expect a price drop for the system and some great games coming out right around the launch of the new xbox and ps4.

Once Smash Bros is revealed/released, I think that is another 5 million consoles alone. Many, many people will not buy a console until there is a game they consider worth getting, and I personally know of many people who are just waiting for Smash Bros on Wii U before they buy one.

Then again, Smash bros is going to be on 3DS as well, so maybe a bunch of people will just buy a 3DS with its already impressive library...

Anywho I expect once the games are revealed people will start buying the console, and I expect around the N64 level sales.

Bingo. If anyone needs evidence of this, just look at our Nintendo 3DS Daily poll and see what game won:

Super Smash Bros 4 (34%, 96 Votes)

That's not a lot sales wise, but if you assume the interests of the people voting are sort of a micro sample of the total Nintendo fan population, then that's definitely five or ten million Wii Us being bought for this one game.
