Interesting! We hit the top of the lid with a butter knife & go around it.
Another option is to use those shelf liners, the ones with the holes in them. You can buy specially made ones to open jars but we just get a big roll & cut a few pieces into squares.

If I can't get it open myself, I usually take it to my husband and have him open it for me.
