During the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference on Tuesday, Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman said that the company is shifting resources from PCs to tablets. She said the market moved extremely fast to tablets and smartphones, and HP now needs to manage that transition.

I think this is a good idea for HP since there are already many companies which make affordable PCs like Lenovo, Foxconn, and Third-world computer makers which sell PCs for as cheap as $200-400 because of cheaper wages for all workers than in the US where people make $10 or more an hour compared to a dollars a day in countries like China and India.

Plus, more people who want a PC just build one themselves for cheaper prices, find a friend or family member to build one for them for less than buying one in stores, or buy a used or refurbished PC, and upgrade it with more RAM, and a better video card if they need to if they do more intensive tasks like video editing, or gaming.

But, most people don't build their own tablets, smartphones, and other mobile devices because it is more difficult, and tablets and smartphones prices are not that expensive or even free if you get them when you sign up for a 2-3 year contract with a cell phone service.

PCs aren't getting less popular at all. If anything, it's just the opposite. Tablets are getting popular too, but that's only because they cost less than any full-featured current gen laptops on the market. The PC isn't going anywhere.

PC are getting more popular for gaming, video editiing, sound editing, and other intensive tasks, but for general tasks like e-mail, web browsing, and social networking which many old people and casual users do at home a tablet would be a more likely choice because it costs $99 like the HP Touchpad, or $199 like the Kindle Fire.

PCs are getting more popular in China, and the third world, but I think Chinese and other Asian races are more likely to buy Chinese and Asian brands like Lenovo than HP, and Dell because a lot of Asian people might be more proud owning an Asian built computer than one made in America like how a lot of Americans are more proud to own a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge car and truck rather than a car made in Korea.

Plus, most people who own a PC already, and the amount of quality used PC for sale is pretty high, so people buy fewer new PC like how many people buy used cars instead of new cars because they are cheaper.

I may be alone in thinking this, but I want to see a move toward a physically smaller laptop; not just making a flatter tablet. I don't mind a tiny keyboard, I just want to see one exist in mainstream circulation.
