Now that's an anime that surprised me.
The plot was interesting, but rather basic, and involved a 12 years old boy wanting to become a Hunter to find his father who also happens to be one.
Normally I would have tried it on release, but the childish look of the anime and the fact that the main character fought with a fishing rod kinda put me off.

Turned out I was wrong. I gave it a try a couple of weeks ago and it only took me 5 days to go through the full 125 episodes that were out.

Hunter X Hunter easily makes it in the top 10 anime I've seen (nearly 400), and is definitely worth watching.

I've been hearing so much about this and I am DEFINITELY going to watch this summer. Don't know how it doesn't have a topic yet

I've herd a lot about it as well, there is the 125 episodes series and then a new version right?

I was going to make this topic >:(

The 2011 version has 128 episodes now, by the way. The next ones will be released on every Tuesday.

Also, if the current arc ends, I'm not sure if they should make even more episodes. It's very based on the Manga, where Gon looses an arm and uses almost all of his aura to defeat Neferpitou, which means he will be useless in future adventures...

Uhh, would you mind answering my question? I really want to know where did you hear they'll make an arc about the Zoldyck family :L

Oh, I'm sorry, I missed that question. I'm not sure if the anime will include that arc, but in the manga the last arc involves the Zoldyck family, more specifically Killua and one of his sisters that haven't been introduced yet. Its pretty short though, so if they do animate it, it will take 15 episodes at most.

I know this topic is a little old but I searched up Hunter x Hunter and found my way here. I figured it would be better to use this than make a new topic, and it's only a few weeks old anyways.

So Hunter x Hunter, yes it seems very basic at first and it is. It's about a boy who wants to become a Hunter, then he wants to find his father. Along the way he goes on an adventure. It sounds like and looks like any battle shounen out there but the reason why this anime is my favorite is how complex it really is. There are certainly a lot of darker animes out there but the fact that HxH has so much contrast is what I love.

It can be so bright and happy, and then everyone could be dying. But it is also the intelligence behind it. I've noticed in other anime that the fights themselves are just characters going back and forth, while in HxH there's more to the fights. It's hard to explain I guess, but there are a lot of mind-games that go on which I love.

And Gon is a very interesting character too, (Anime spoiler)
He seems like the type of character who is brave, who won't back down, and will always try to do the right thing. You would be right about him not backing down, but he isn't exactly someone who thinks of the difference between right and wrong. In fact, he is kind of scary, even before the Chimera Ant arc. Like at the start, he literally does not care that Killua has murdered dozens of possibly innocent people. He just wants to be friends. Then when Killua rips out that man's heart in the exam arc, Gon doesn't even flinch. Afterwards they read books together, play with each other's toys, and have a cute pillow fight. That in itself seems dark to me.

There are other examples too but I'll leave it at that for now. Other than how his character is a bit unnerving, the character development he and others go through is amazing.
