Laptop manufacturers make it harder and harder for their customers to modify their own laptops.
Because less freedom = fewer chance somebody will send them a laptop back for repair, and as a bonus, it gives them a reason to charge you a higher price.

Really hate it where technology nowadays is going to. ヽ(´ー`)ノ

It's disappointing that users need to use a Drywall spatula or two credit-card, and other less common tools to replace a battery.

thankfully I got a protection plan on my laptop to get a free replacement (just waiting to clear the claim), but to replace it looks.... threatening.

It is good that you got a protection plan. Hopefully, the technician does a good job at replacing your laptop's battery, and you get a battery which last longer.

the plan was purchased via online, so they will most likely just ship me a new battery and leave me to install it.

good luck with the install.

Looks intimidating. They do this so when something breaks you are more likely to just replace the entire laptop. Let us know how it goes!

This is true. Most laptops are hard to fix, and users maybe more likely to get another laptop if the laptop is hard to repair, or cost too much to repair at a local computer repair store.

Some laptop makers like Apple also make a lot of money from selling extended Apple Care warranties which probably a small percentage of owners use before it expires because some people mainly use their Apple laptops for word processing, web browsing, and basic video and photo editing which won't wear out or overheat their laptop as quickly as PC gaming, 4K video editing, and 3D animation.

Apple also charges a lot of money to repair laptops where you may spend hundreds of dollars fixing or replacing a part like RAM which maybe worth under $100.

it's a 1400 laptop, just slightly over a year old. It's not going anywhere, though I am kind of thinking of just swapping for something a bit more.... user friendly and then sell my laptop. Even selling it half price should cover most of a new one but finding one with a decent SSD is hard.

Finding a affordable laptop with a big size ssd is hard.
There also seem to be fewer laptops where parts are simpler to replace or repair without taking the whole laptop apart.

Well I'm sending my laptop off to ASUS for fixing, but I'm getting a new one first. Pending if I can sell my current one once fixed, I may send the new one back or keep it since it is slightly cheaper and selling off my current one will pay for it and the SSD I had to order.
