The tablet market is starting to look a lot like the traditional PC market: device makers are seeing declining shipments and some of the best-selling devices are the ones that are dirt cheap, which leaves little room for profits.

That’s the takeaway from a new report from research firm IDC, which says about 43 million tablets were shipped in the third quarter of 2016, representing a 14.7 percent decline from the same period a year earlier.

Amazon’s Fire line of tablets saw year-over-year growth of 320 percent following the introduction of the company’s $50 Amazon Fire tablet (which was on sale for just $33.33 during the Amazon Prime Day sale — which took places in the quarter covered by the report).

I feel cheap tablets always sold very well because I see a lot of people using cheap tablets, and cheap tablets are one of the best selling products at Amazon, Ebay, and retail stores.

I think a lot of people buy cheap tablets as gifts because they don't want to spend a lot of money on gifts for co-workers, friends, and family members. But, they don't want to buy people stuff like socks, sweaters, and pants which they may not wear.

2-in-1 tablets are popular because they come with a keyboard which is useful for typing long posts on Forums, Blogs, and social networks which don't have a post word limit like Twitter. More mobile games also support keyboard controls especially if you are using Windows 10 where most games have keyboard controls.

Cheap is good for school work or constantly on the go and don't want to risk losing or damaging something of high value.

I think cheap tablets are popular with college students who don't have much money, and sometimes are not good at saving money. But, they still need a tablet to read eBooks, and notes on a bigger screen.
