Even as the wider PC industry declines thanks to the rise of mobile devices, IHS is predicting that Netbooks in particular will be fully dead within two years, with Apple's iPad as the primary driver in its decline.

I feel Google Android Tablets, Smartphones, and other cheaper tablets like the HP Touchpad for $99 are causing the decline in Netbooks more because you can buy a cheap Android Tablet, or Smartphone with a keyboard case or slideout keyboard for phones for $99 or less.

The iPad Mini, iPad 2, and iPad 3 may make people not buy netbooks because the cheaper versions of the iPad are in the same price range as a better netbook.

Maybe it is the tablet-only users who are buying cheap netbooks, so they can use programs like Windows Movie Maker video editor, Internet Explorer, and MS Paint, but they don't want to buy a more expensive laptop or desktop which costs hundreds more than a Netbook because their tablet and cheaper netbook can do most of the tasks they need to do. Windows 7/8 tablets are still very expensive like the Surface Pro/RT which cost 499-999.

Android tablets still need a computer to root tablets, phones, and iOS devices like the iPhone also need a computer to use to jailbreak it. The Netbook is the cheapest PC to use for rooting and jailbreaking mobile devices. A netbook is also useful for sideloading apps and files, backing up files to a computer drive, or deleting unwanted files like old homework, unwanted picture files, etc via USB when Android is in USB Storage mode.

Netbooks suck, so I for one welcome their demise. My mom thinks that a netbook is just as good as a full laptop but they usually can't even connect.

They are good for school work, media consumption, and office work.

I like Google's Chromebook netbooks since they startup fast, and the battery life is pretty good.
