Anders Behring Brevik killed 77 people in Norway in 2011. Since he said that he used Call of Duty to practice his aiming and World of Warcraft to hide his plans, video games have been became part of the story of his horrific crime. Now, 18 months into a 21-year prison sentence, he's demanding that his PS2 be upgraded to a PS3.

In a November 2013 letter to prison authorities obtained by Agence France-Presse, Brevik is threatening to go a hunger strike because he believes he's being treated "worse than an animal." Brevik's list of demands includes access to better consoles and better games:

"Other inmates have access to adult games while I only have the right to play less interesting kids games. One example is "Rayman Revolution", a game aimed at three-year-olds."

Brevik believes he is better behaved than most prisoners—who he is kept away from—and deserves more liberties as a result. The convicted killer—who hinted at retaliation from European right-wing extremists if he dies—says he's being unfairly "tortured." The convicted killer refers to himself as a "human rights activist, too."

"You seem to think that we — all human rights activists who fight for one fundamental human right (cultural self-determination) — ... are Nazi monsters who should be pushed into suicide," he wrote.

He also groused that he wanted a better chair and access to a PC, instead of the typewriter he's currently restricted to.

I don't know where to begin to bash this. The fact there is a PS2 in prison is a outrage.

This is fucking insane.   First of all, 77 people killed and only a 21 year prison sentence??  If you are a murderer, you SHOULD be treated like an animal cause that's what you are.  Hunger strike? HA, that wouldn't work for me if I was the warden.

From him, of all people... He should not even have the right to speak, for all that he has done.

It's horrible to hear that he has been using video games as a part of his crime.

I agree, and to allow him to continue using games is a travesty.

I think he should be grateful they even let him have a PS2. (I wouldn't have let him have one...)

So if he wants to complain and demand a PS3 (probably with an internet connection too right?) I think he should lose his PS2 and gain nothing. Especially considering, like mentioned, he claimed to use Modern Warfare to help train to execute his murders. So no way in hell should he be allowed anything violent lest it help him relive/relish his crimes.

As for being an activist... He can call himself whatever he wants but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true or that others will agree with him.
Furthermore, if he thinks he is being tortured by being denied a game console... He has no idea what real torture is. Perhaps they could show him. Maybe they could starve him for 2 weeks then let him build up strength again. Then starve him for another 2 weeks... And repeat the process for every victim of his attack. That would be torture.
