So I'm trying to install MS office 2010 using the set up from the official site and no matter what I do it won't install on the 4th step and it don't give me a error page just says ask MS for help. Well I did and they didn't help much. Since I need it for school, I need to get it installed as quick as possible.
anyone here running MS office 2010 that could help or maybe give me their copy of the program?
I think your running a limited version of Microsoft Office 2010 with limited features. Your college might have a discounted price on Office 2010, or you can just buy the Student version of Office 2010 at most places which sell software like BestBuy, etc. But, the student version does not come with Microsoft Access. The Student version only comes with Word, Excel, Power Point, and OneNote.
You need to unlock the registry key in Regedit. Here is a registry unlocking tutorial with screen caps I made on my website : http://johnsonyip.com/how-to-unlock-windows-registry-permissions-tuturials.htm
You may need to unlock multiple registry keys to uninstall MS word viewer 2003.
Could you use http://www.openoffice.org/ to type out your assignment with Open Office writer, and save them as a .doc document file if just need something to type out homework?
good guide, but having a bit of a problem. where exactly do I need to go? I found a office file with word view under Hkey_Current_user but the permission editing didn't change anything.
I think you need to add your user account to the registry key, and set your user account to full control. You also need to add your user account as the owner.
You can try doing a System restore to an earlier time before you installed MS Word Viewer.
Revo Uninstaller Free is also a good program to use to remove programs which can't uninstall properly.

I'm not sure, you have to use Windows Eventviewer to find the location of the locked registry key in Regedit.
Here is a tutorial I made on using Windows Eventviewer on finding and fixing problems related to the registry: http://johnsonyip.com/troubleshooting-windows-update-s-installations-in-vista-with-windows-event-viewer.htm
Revo uninstaller free, could help you uninstall broken programs which can't uninstall.

You can save files as a .doc document file which should be compatible with MS Word 2010, but you should e-mail it to someone with MS Office 2010 to see if they can open it. Yes, you can open .docx files in OpenOffice.
OpenOffice has most of the features you need like text formatting, bold, italics, underline, fonts, margins, etc.
OpenOffice has a good Spellcheck, but there is no Grammar check in OpenOffice. But, one of my English teachers says you never should rely on Word's Grammar checks since they are not very accurate compared to a person who has good grammar checking over a document.
