Intel is taking a note from hardcore PC gamers by experimenting with oil immersion to keep its servers cool. As GigaOM reports, the company recently completed a year-long trial in which server components were immersed in oil, and found that there were no negative effects on the hardware.

This is pretty cool way to keep a server cool by dunking it in oil. I think this would save a lot of time since you don't need to clean fans, or worry about fans which don't spin because they are clogged with dust, or broken.

Plus, it won't be as noisy, or hot in the room.

But, I can imagine replacing parts will be very oilly, and dirty for the person which maintains the servers.

It all has it's pros and cons, but which is better on the savings?

It's hard to say which cost less since you wouldn't need electricity for oil, or replace fans and air conditioners which can cost more but some oil costs more unless it is cheaper types of oils like mineral oil, or vegetable oil which you can get for 20 dollars for a big bottle.

I think once the electric car, solar power, electric trains, etc becomes popular, the price of oil will drop since fewer people will need oil for cars and planes.
