They compare the games shown at E3 to others on competing systems, and conclude while the Wii U is more powerful than consoles this gen, not significantly more so.

It's an interesting read, although I think they do make mistakes, namely assuming Wii Fit U and Nintendo Land should be showcases for the console's graphical power.

Problem is, both games are designed for the expanded audience, and the latter is designed to be a tech demo for the Wii U Game Pad, not the HD graphics. Their style is likely kept simple on purpose, like how the one in New Super Mario Bros Wii was.

OK, from reading your post on it Nin, I rather think that the game to push it's hardware in making A-grade graphics will rather be Pikmin 3 then Wii Fit U and Nintendo Land. I mean, just the gameplay I saw the other day shows it - I'm not big on graphics when it comes to video games and it's all about the gameplay and story, but darn those are some nice graphics.

Just because it's only going to run at 30 FPS doesn't mean it won't push the hardware. I've yet to see graphics that look so realistic on another console, but since Pikmin's world is in fact tiny Nintendo pay much more attention to the environment many other series simply take for granted. There isn't just detail on a tree, there's detail on every single little leaf.

But maybe that's just my Pikmin-super-excited-side talking. Even if Pikmin 3 really doesn't show off the graphical power, I think Nintendo Land and Wii Fit U will have standard graphics, ones that will be pushed further for future games.

nintendo's making a mistake with putting grapics barely higher than this gen. they'll be very far behind when the other two release.

But it's far cheaper this way. Having a super-powered console is very, very expensive. Not to mention it being prohibitively expensive for developers to make games for (meaning a lot of the less well-funded developers may shy away from such powerful consoles).
And the Wii U won't be left 'far behind', anyway. The next Xbox and PlayStation will doubtless be more powerful, but the gulf will not be nearly as large as the on between the 360/PS3 and the Wii is. The Wii U will also have had a few years head start. And just because a console is more powerful, doesn't mean that that power will be utilised. The PS3 is appreciably more powerful than the 360, but very few, if any, games actually make use of that extra power.
