Auto-saves are handy since if there is a power outage, turn-off your console or PC by accident before saving or crash, you won't lose much gaming progress if you have auto-save for your game as a feature.
I generally don't even think about it until I die. Since I mostly play MMO's now, saving isn't really an issue. But in the past when I would play single-player games, saving would sometimes be crucial to save hours from not having to replay whole levels over. What I don't like is when auto-save is the only save option, since it can sometimes be inconvenient. If you suddenly have to leave the game, you could lose a lot of time from having to replay whereas with manual save you could have saved and left. I know there are some games where you cannot save from within a level, and this can either frustrate the heck out you or motivate you to focus and play better. it works both ways.
I find autosaves are rather important, though I do dislike them when they make things too easy or even advance you sometimes if you die (the latter has happened to me before... somehow)
This reminds me of the time I was playing Metro 2033, it did a checkpoint right in the middle of a fire fight with some Nazi and I was running to cover that with a spiked wall... slid into that wall like 5 times.
But anyhow I'm a compulsive saver, I have save states from a game in '07 cause I didn't want to over wright them so I love it when the system dose it for me.
Agreed. I was going to say that, yeah, auto save is always good as long as it is a background thing and we are not talking about checkpoint saves popping up all over the place. But it is true that you may not actually want it to be saved. In some cases it may overwrite something else you find more important. I have had this type of thing to happen before. Maybe the option to have it enabled at times, and not at others.
Yeah definitely. Auto-saves are important in case my computer crashes or some accident occurs.
I'm also really lazy to go into the menu to save every so often.
Depends how the auto-save works. As mentioned before, if it automatically overwrites the previous auto-save, it'd better have a manual save option as well, or your save could be stuck in a rather unfavorable position. But when it's there and you do get an option to manually save, yeah I appreciate that.
I love autosave. It has saved me from many disastrous accidents as I'm one who forgets to save regularly. I owe a lot of my gaming progress to autosave!
Personally, I don't rely much on auto saves since I will save my game from time to time so that I won't lose any data. However, auto saves are somehow important especially when the device runs out of battery or the game crashes suddenly.
I mean, I definitely like check-points in First-person shooters infact, I wouldn't be able to complete half the games I did without them.
Checkpoints are good but 'saving at any time' feature isn't exactly in my interests. I don't like it because it helps in cheating. I remember saving after every over lest my batsman got out in Cricket 97' and that was what helped me get 700 runs in a 50 over match
But, sometimes I hate them because they save things I can't reverse!
