With this article in mind do you believe one day only those who make a lot of money can afford gaming?

I think gaming is becoming more affordable because of alternatives like game consoles like The Ouya which cost $99, and where games will be free to play, or cheap to buy the full version for a few dollars if you like the free demo version.

Minecraft, and other PC games cost under 27 US Dollars, and can be played on older PCs running Windows XP or older.

Flash games are also free to play online.

But, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and other current gen games can be very expensive if you buy a lot of games, controllers, and more.

I think games are getting vheaper. Every week is a sale of the newest games being $40-50. Plus consoles are fairly cheap now, and Xbox even has a monthly payment feature.

If you sign a 2 year contract for Xbox Live, you can buy the Xbox 360 Slim 4GB Arcade with Kinect for $99.

There are also stores which let you pay for the consoles slowly by paying monthly payments like $50 dollars a month.

I think there are rental places which let you rent game consoles for a few dollars a day, and Redbox game rentals are a few dollars as well.

Gamefly is also pretty affordable.

All very good points. I think the main reason gaming is staying affordable is the increased number of options. Gone are the days where people find themselves stuck with System A or System B. Competition is the buyer's best friend.

Competition is a double edged sword, yes it 's good for the price but sucks if you want to play something that is on a system you don't own.

Mobile gaming, and Steam on Linux are both very affordable options since people can play a lot of free mobile games, and if they want better games, they can buy older games like Final Fantasy 1-3, EA and Gameloft games for a few dollars.

Linux is a free operating system which can be installed on a lot of older and newer PCs, so gamers do not have to pay for Windows, and just build or buy a computer without an operating system, and install Linux which is cheaper to play games from Steam's Linux store.

According to http://www.reddit.co...games_on_steam/ Steam also have full free games for people to play on their PC.

There are a lot of free online games like Maple Story, America's Army, Runescape, Need for Speed: World, and tons more you can download from the internet, and install them on your PC, or some games like Second Life, and Runescape runs in your browser, so you do not even have to spend any money to play games, and you can just play games from the internet on your own computer with an internet connection.

All you need is a computer which is fast enough to run the games. Finding a computer fast enough to run most of these free games like Second Life, Runescape, Maple Story, etc are not too hard since a lot of free online games have low system requirements, and can run well even on computers which are 5+ years old, so more people can play.

There are also many Free to Play games on Steam, PC, and other services which you can play for free as long as you have an internet connection to download the installer file for the game, and game pirates pay nothing to play games on consoles, and PC, so it is cheap/free for them.

The older a game gets, the less you end up paying for it. Same with consoles. Recently we've been seeing a trend wherein the price of technology is actually going down dramatically. It costs more to fill up your gas tank where I live than it is to buy a bunch of peripherals nowadays.

the hell it is, until you get a decent job it would take many weeks for a kid to save up to buy a game.

Truth. I remember saving up my allowance for over a month at a time to get a single game.

Unless you count the game with the ball on a string that you have to get into the cup. lol.
